Frequently asked questions:
What is a Quinceanera?
In Latin culture, a girl who is having her 15th birthday is called a quinceañera. It is a combination of the Spanish words quince "fifteen" and años "years". The quinceañera is both a religious and a social event that celebrates a girl's coming of age into womanhood and dating. The roots of quinceañera are thought to be a mix of Spanish\Catholic culture and Indigenous cultures from Aztec and Mayan rite of passage customs. The celebration begins with a mass attended by the girl and her family. Mass is followed by a reception with friends and relatives invited. The reception features food, music, and dancing, with the quinceañera accompanied by her court of honor.
