Hosted at a beautiful banquet hall, the reception is a festive gathering of friends and family that includes music, food, dancing, and several ceremonial traditions:
The introduction dance - Bringing out the Quinceanera and her Court of Honor
The Changing of Shoes- The father of the Quinceañera ceremoniously changes her flat shoes to high heels. This symbolizes her transformation from a little girl to a young lady.
The Vals - A father/daughter dance. Here the father leads the Quinceanera in the first offical dance of the evening. The father-daughter dance is a special moment in time as it symbolizes the birthday girl's first dance as a young woman with her father.
The Waltz - A choreographed waltz is typically performed by the Quinceañera and her Court. Traditionally in Mexico, a young girl could not dance in public aside from school functions or family parties, and the waltz during the Quince party was seen as the first time she could publicly dance in front of her friends!
The Crowning - Along with the changing or the shoes, the Crowning with the Tiara is also a part of the Quinceanera ceremony. It is traditional for the headpiece worn by the Quinceanera to be ceremoniously replaced with the Tiara. The Crowning is done by her parents.
Brindis - The toast to the daughter, known as the brindis, guests are invited to offer their congratulations and best wishes by toasting the Quinceañera.
The Last Doll- It represents the last toy (the things of a child) that the quinceanera will receive from her parents, because hereafter, she will be about the things of a young adult. In some celebrations, the ceremony also includes the Quinceanera surrendering the Doll to a younger sibling signifying her new status as a young woman.
